Taylor
Taylor Swift was a rarity in pop culture: she was the only celebrity to have transitioned from the traditional to the mainstream, and to become a global pop culture icon. Swift removed the influences of country like they were an extra layer of skin. She revealed that she was among the best singers/songwriters of her generation. Swift could make the occasion personal, or use the moment to benefit. The first songs she released including the neotribute to Tim McGraw were a testament to her talents. However, her second album Fearless from 2008 showed a songwriter finding her voice and a wider public. Fearless was a huge success worldwide but not only in North America (where it received with six platinum awards for Top Ten Hits Love Story as well as "You Belong with Me") however, in Canada, Australia and the U.K. and other countries. Swift's next album, Speak Now, released just two years after the previous one, built on the success of this album. It propelled Swift into the spotlight. Her popularity only increased over her next three albums -- Red (2012) 1989 (2014), and Reputation (2017) Reputation (2017) and saw her move confidently into a realm of pop music where she already belonged. Her popularity grew even after she altered her plan with 2020's pared-down siblings Folklore (and Evermore) and stayed at the top of the charts.
